I built Dance With Friends for the Facebook Campus Hackathon Finals in 2012 with Jasdeep Hundal, John Oliver, and Harry Terkelsen. We won first place at the Facebook Cornell Hackathon, which advanced us to the finals in Menlo Park, where we competed against winners from other regions across the nation and globe.
Dance With Friends is an in-browser, multiplayer Dance Dance Revolution game built using WebRTC, web sockets, node.js, and backbone.js. It requires a web cam and a newer browser.
You move your hands or feet (depending on the mode selected by the user) into areas on the screen to match arrows that are synchronized to music. You compete with your friends for the highest score in every game. All the motion-detection was done in JS in the browser
We tabbed out “Gangnam Style.” The app worked really well. Sadly, a faulty internet connection and some miscommunication with the timer led to a poor presentation It was still a fun event hosted by a great company.
